Dermapen Microneedling: How It Transforms Your Skin

If you have researched treatments for acne scars, enlarged pores, fine lines or uneven skin texture, you have probably come across Dermapen microneedling. It has earned a loyal following — and for once, the hype is justified by the science.

The science behind microneedling

Your skin is incredibly good at healing itself. Microneedling works by creating thousands of tiny, precisely controlled micro-channels in the skin using ultra-fine sterile needles. Your body responds by producing fresh collagen and elastin — the two proteins responsible for firm, youthful skin — as it repairs these micro-channels.

The result? Smoother texture, tighter pores, softer scars, and that glow people notice but cannot quite place.

Why Dermapen specifically?

Not all microneedling devices are equal. Dermapen is a medical-grade, automated device that delivers consistent needle depth and speed across the entire treatment area. Compared to manual dermarollers, Dermapen is more precise, more hygienic, and significantly less traumatic to the skin. This means better results with less downtime.

What can it treat?

  • Acne scars and post-acne pigmentation
  • Fine lines and early wrinkles
  • Enlarged or congested pores
  • Uneven skin tone and texture
  • Stretch marks (when applied to the body)
  • Dull, tired-looking skin

What does a session look like?

After thoroughly cleansing your skin, a topical anaesthetic cream is applied for 20-30 minutes. The treatment itself takes around 30 minutes and is described by most clients as a mild prickling or vibrating sensation — not painful.

We often finish by applying a serum packed with hyaluronic acid, peptides or vitamin C. Because the micro-channels remain open for a few hours, these ingredients penetrate far deeper than they normally could, boosting your result.

What to expect afterwards

Your skin will look flushed for 12 to 24 hours — think of it as a healthy post-gym glow. Some clients experience light flaking or dryness on days 3 to 5 as the top layer of skin renews. By day 7, skin looks noticeably smoother and brighter.

The deeper rebuilding of collagen continues for 4 to 6 weeks. This is why most protocols involve a course of 3 to 6 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart.

Aftercare rules

  • No makeup for 24 hours
  • Avoid active ingredients (retinol, acids, vitamin C) for 3 days
  • Use a gentle cleanser and SPF 50 daily
  • No gym, saunas or direct sun for 48 hours
  • Stay hydrated — water helps your skin rebuild faster

Who is it for?

Almost everyone. Microneedling is safe on all skin types and tones — unlike some lasers, which can cause pigment changes in darker skin. The main exclusions are pregnancy, active acne or cold sores on the treatment area, and certain skin conditions, which we check during your consultation.

Results vs. expectations

One session will give you a fresh, glowing look. Lasting transformation — softer scars, smoother texture, firmer skin — comes from a course of sessions followed by occasional maintenance. We believe in setting honest expectations, and Dermapen works best as part of a skincare plan, not a one-off fix.
